Self Defence
UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Michelle teaches self defence which helps the body and mind to draw on its

own natural resources and defences whether they are physical,

mental, emotional or spiritual.

Self Defence suits those who require something fairly physically challenging

but not as demanding as a traditional martial arts class.

Regular practice of Self Defence can:
give you the chance of defending yourself in a real-life attack
  improve reflexes
  increase self-confidence
  tone muscles
improve mind/body awareness of yourself and other people
  improve balance, co-ordination and flexibility
  improve breathing and circulation
  improve memory and concentration

The class uses posture and self-defence techniques from martial
arts such as kung fu and aikido. Initially these are practiced through
a soft tai chi style approach which trains the individual in accuracy
and attention to detail. Gradually techniques are practiced up to speed
and with more dynamism - which in turn leads to a toning
of muscles and more strength.

Techniques are also combined together to make a 'form'
where an individual practices a set of moves on a regular basis.
This trains the body (which has it's own kind of self-awareness)
in applying techniques in different combinations and
from various angles.

It also looks at de-stressing through breathing and visualisation,
the development of internal energy, and positive thinking.

Warm-up exercises on the whole are gentle
but effective. Each exercise can have a 'level' option

so that it can either be practiced on an 'easy' starting
level, or it can be extended by those who want
to stretch themselves a little further.
Taster workshops and private sessions
can be arranged for any interested individuals or groups.
